Introduction

My name is Megan Augustine. I have my B.A. in Speech Language and Hearing Science from Temple University. I am currently pursing Early Grades Teaching Certification at West Chester University.

As a future educator, my goal is to be a life long learner, inside and outside of the classroom, while sharing my energy, organizational skills, creativity and determination with my students and my peers.

Professionally, I aim to secure a career position and then pursue a Masters Degree in the field of Education.

As part of the course EDP 553: Assessment Learning: Early Grades, I have created this blog to serve as a Personal Learning Environment – a place where I can explore a topic, find resources related to it and write about them in a meaningful way.

I'd like to explore teaching strategies to best prepare students, specifically those in an inclusive classroom or with special learning needs, for assessments and how to adapt assessments for these students, if necessary, as a teacher in a Pre-K-4th grade inclusive classroom.

I'm interested in what current teachers do, what their opinions and ideas are and what other information is available. What is the best way to  prepare students for all the assessments they will encounter during this early stage and later in life?

I want to further research the decision making process that a teacher goes through when planning assessments for an inclusive classroom: How they will prepare the students? When will assessment will be given? What weight will the assessment hold? How to know when to make accommodations (incorporating IEP information, possible parental recommendations, and the teacher's own observations about a student)? What accommodations are best for what type of student or best for all students?
